According to a recently published report from Dell’Oro Group the ongoing supply chain shortage impacted the radio access network (RAN) market in the third quarter, with multiple suppliers and operators now raising flags.

With the recent entry of NEC into the UK market as a 5G RAN supplier, and Dish Network entering the US 5G market building a new network from scratch using an open RAN (O-RAN) approach, the challenges are starting to mount against closed system vertically and horizontally integrated 5G RAN providers.

Nokia has been selected by Taiwan Mobile (TWM) as the sole supplier of its 5G network in a three-year framework deal worth approximately 400 million euros.

The three main mobile telecommunications carriers in India, spooked by the US ban on Huawei and ZTE, have indicated that they may not use equipment from the two main Chinese telecoms companies for the core component of their 5G networks.
